COGNOS BI – SAVE REPORT OUTPUT TO A FILE SYSTEM

Edit Cognos configuration, go to “Actions” menu > Edit Global Configuration and set “Archive Location File System Root” (the root folder for all your output folders)

Cognos_Global_Configuration
You can click “Test” button to check everything is ok.

Click OK to close the “Global Configuration” windows then go to Data Access > Content Manager and set “Save report outputs to a file system” to “True”

Save the configuration and restart Cognos service.

Login to Cognos as administrator and open Cognos Administration > Configuration > Dispatcher and Services > Define file system locations

Cognos_define_file_system_locations

Click “Add new” to define a new location. You need to input a name (which will be displayed in Cognos) and a path to an existing file system folder relative to your configured root folder:
Cognos_file_system_locations

Now you can run/schedule reports to be saved in that folder. For any report click “Run with options”, choose “advanced options”

Then selct “Run in the background” and choose “Save to the file system”. Click “Edit the file system options” to select the configured output folder.

Everything else is pretty straightforward. Good luck!
